Oklahomans for Equality commends California U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker for setting a deadline lifting the stay on the issuing of marriage licenses to same gender couples. Gay men and lesbian couples may once again be able to marry in the state of California beginning August 18th. Judge Walker had ruled last week that the Prop 8 ballot measure violated both equal protection and due process clauses of the U.S. Constitution.
Judge Walker said “Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license.”
