A New Leaf’s mission is to provide people with developmental disabilities with life skills, marketable job training through horticultural therapy, community-based vocational placement, and residential services to increase their independence and individual choices. Today, A New Leaf is honored to serve 325 individuals with developmental disabilities and autism through employment in six greenhouses, three retail centers, community job sites, students in the classroom, and individuals in residences.

Exhibits and programming encourage the development of executive function and process skills, including critical thinking, problem solving, communication, collaboration, creativity, and innovation. Educational content focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM), and health and wellness, and complements and supplements current school curriculum. Studies show that hands-on, informal learning experiences, like those delivered by Discovery Lab, impact reading readiness and school success.
